Now...........

Now that Poppa has the garage all finished.... you'll never guess what he is doing!
Recently Granny and Gramps were up for a visit, so we got together with Auntie Cecile and Uncle Mark for a lunch at the Golf course.... a good time was had by all.  They were up to visit Grandma Grace on her 95th birthday! Poppa couldn't come for lunch that day as he had a meeting to attend, but...........
... take a look at this picture and see if you can figure out what else he has been up to!  Did you guess golfing?  Well, yes he has done some of that, but...........
........ that's not all he's been doing.  Take another look from this angle.  Did you guess yet??
Well, here is a better clue.  What is he doing?  Now did you guess?
Oh Dear!  If you guessed that he is buying tools to replace those he got rid of when we moved, because he didn't have enough space for them in the condo - you're absolutely correct.
And then he looks for a space to get them put away so the car will fit into the garage during the winter..... why on earth did I think he was planning on taking things a little easier now that we have moved into town?
So, I made a little sweater for Charlie and he is ready to move to his new home.  And Poppa was so long out in the garage unpacking tools....
........ Squeegie laid down for a nap while Taffy was watching TV.

The Next Project

Once Poppa finally finished crawling around on the garage floor painting ....
.... I found him at my kitchen sink carefully cleaning his paintbrush....
.... under the careful scrutiny of his best friend - Squeegie - who was using my dishrack for a place to sit out of the way of the splashing.  In the meantime....

...... I started a new project for a friend of mine.  Can you guess what it is????
I bet you can guess now!  I named him Charlie, but he will probably get a new name when he gets to his new owner.
Here is is all stuffed and assembled - Taffy is teaching him how to talk.  Oh yes!  I also....
..... made a friend for Curtie's Pooh - he wanted a shark.... I hope sharks don't eat bears!!!

Still Knitting and Poppa is....

... still working.
Now that the walls and ceiling are finished in his workshop/garage, he has started painting the floor.
See how nice the rest of the garage looks?!  So....
....... he kept painting.  I gave up keeping an eye on him and went back into the house.........
.... and finished up this little outfit for the birth of a new little granddaughter for Auntie Denise's friend.  I had another little girlie sweater that I was working on previously - just to use up some yarn.  So I also finished it up....
... and sent it along too.  While I was industriously finishing up knitting projects, and Poppa was on his knees in the garage............
..... Happy was relaxing and enjoying the warm weather.

A Day Trip

When our little boys had gone back home, and were off to school, Poppa decided we should go for a drive.  So....
....... we hopped in the car and headed north.  As you can see there were no fall colours yet.
We stopped at the marine railway just in time to see a boat entering the rail.  The marine railway is a structure like a huge railway car.  The boats drive into it while it is in the water....
............with the hopes of getting to the waterway on the other side of this gorge - which as you can see is quite a lot lower.  I took this photo from the bridge which traffic uses to cross the gorge.
Once the moving cart is full (or all the waiting boats are loaded), a powerful motorized pulley system starts raising the cart up and out of the water.
.The boats are directed in by staff so that when the cart rises out of the water, each boat is positioned in a sling which holds it in place while being transported across the road on a set of tracks - very like railroad tracks.  The captains and passengers in each boat get to stay in the boats, but as you can imagine - must remain seated at all times.
Once the cart is across the road, it begins the steep downward descent to the lake on the other side.  You can see the rails heading down the hill.
It actually moves surprisingly quickly for such a large vehicle...I had to almost run down all these steps to follow it!
Here it is at the top of the slope...
........ and this is where it will be travelling........
........... down to this level, where the rails once again enter the water .........
.......... where it slowly goes lower and lower........
..... until the boats can start their motors and drive out into the lake...
...... as you can see - there were quite a few of them - and other waiting to cross to the high side.
Some of the boats are fairly large.
Soon it was full again and began the journey up the hill again in the opposite direction.
Over the crest of the hill.....
....... across the road and once again, into the water....
....... and we watched the boats follow the channel to the lake on the high side of the gorge..........
....... I couldn't resist getting another picture - it's a long way to the bottom!  Anyway...........
.......... this time we headed south on the highway...........
........ and drove past Uncle Ernie's house on our way home....it didn't look like anybody was home.  It was an interesting and fun day - hope you enjoyed the tour!
