He's trimming the pool cover. It was quite new when we arrived and hadn't quite flattened out from being folded into a box. Now that the pool heater has run and the sun has been shining and the temperatures have been in the 80's, it has settled down. He is cutting off the bits of excess around the edges so it will lay down properly and keep the pool warm!
