The First Visit

Much to my delight.....
...........about the middle of August, Mommy and the little boys came to our house!  Mommy and Munchie stayed for the night and then headed back in the morning.  Curtie.....
..... stayed at our house for a visit.  In the morning while Poppa was golfing, Curtie and I walked up to the grocery store to find some treats for him.  I let him pick whatever he wanted....
.... and he ended up with quite a variety of things to snack on.  He was only here for a couple of days, but he managed to cram in quite a bit of activities.  He went a couple of time to the beach with Poppa - but I stayed at home and didn't get pictures of their fun times there.  They both came home happy about their adventures though.  Aside from that....
... and after he had chosen some snacks to enjoy.....
.......... and tasting some of everything to determine what he liked best..........
........which took quite a while and required some Coke to wash it all down...........
..... he decided to try out Poppa's computer while I read my e-mail and caught up on the news....
........... he was doing jigsaw puzzles...........
....... and he was quite good at getting them done!  That's what we did in the morning while Poppa was golfing.
In the afternoons things got a little livelier.  He went outside with Poppa.........
........ where they could practice shooting the new nerf gun that Curtie chose as his "vacation souvenir".

I usually took this opportunity to try and clean off the island somewhat, though it seemed to collect a lot of stuff with the addition of a small person to the household.
But, I had lots of time, as the boys went outside with the gun the next day too - after they had been to the beach....
........... they played some more with the gun - which had little foam bullets that actually came flying out of it - which kept them busy finding them after firing.  I believe they only lost one and managed to retrieve all the others.
And just before I called them in for supper, Curtis watered the plants for Poppa.

More Garage....

More about the duct work....
....... these are the pipes coming from the furnace and going up to the bedroom above the garage.  Poppa has made sure that they are all connected properly and permanently.  There was no insulation around them at all when he opened the wall - but there will be when he is done!
There are now two solid pipes going to two hot air vents in the bedroom - with no leaks or unconnected pipes.
Everything is neat and tidy and........
......... ready for the final layer of pink insulation.
As you can see, the Wall of Tools is still intact - I think I need a wall to organize my knitting needles, yarn and gadgets!👵
But the rest of the garage is in a state of chaos - which must bother Poppa quite a bit!  Oh well - it has to get worse before it can get better!
Now - if he could just find those drywall screws!

Further Updates

Okay - where did I leave off??
Oh yes! Here is one of the things I promised.  Remember Poppa working on his knees all around the flower bed?  Well - here is what he did.  He put that little edging all around it so that it would be more difficult for grass and weeds to creep in.  Looks pretty nice, right?
The rest of his plants are flourishing as well.  We've had so much rain this year and not a lot of sunshine - so they don't look quite as pretty as they did last year at this time.
As soon as that chore was done, he got back into the garage.  Having fixed all the duct issues, he started cutting some fancy kind of rock insulation to put up there.
First he put the pink fiberglass insulation up.  Then he put a layer of stiff foam insulation.
Then the layer of grey rock insulation went on at the last.  He had to leave this section open to put the ducts in for the heat vents in the bedroom above.  A lot of work for Poppa, but we can already notice a difference in the temperature of the bedroom - and also much less noise coming from the garage.  Obviously, this is not my area of expertise!  You can tell from the descriptions!  But...
....... more in keeping with my projects, here is another Twiddle Muff, this is the outside, and.....
..... the inside is less elaborate since it is about the feeling, not the seeing.  Another item of interest....
......... Aunt Peggy's stone has been put in place.  We're quite pleased with it.

What Did He Find?

Once Poppa got all that insulation out of the garage ceiling, what do you think he found?
Well - he found this duct pipe that went nowhere - it just blew air from the furnace into a void.  And....
...... he found duct pipes connected by duct tape, but the tape had dried out and quit sticking - so air from the furnace/air conditioner was leaking out.  And....
.... he found pipes that should have been connected, but weren't - more loss of air from the HVAC system.  Is it any wonder that the bedroom over the garage was never quite warm or cool?  Geesh!
Poppa set about taking all the duct work out, so he could add one register to the bedroom and correct the issues with the pipes.  It took him a long time, and.....
.... Taffy and I finished another Twiddle Muff.....
......... I tried to take apicture of the inside, so you could see the stuff in there - but it didn't turn out very well. 😊
But, I did catch this interesting view.  Once Poppa removed all the  duct pipes there was a hole in the floor of the bedroom.  I could envision all kinds of wildlife - bugs, flies, mosquitoes or maybe even a bat - sneaking into the bedroom form the garage - so I laid one of Munchie's books over the opening.... that book was mine when I was about his age and it was one of my most treasured books - there were bears on the front!

Another Poppa |Project

I found Poppa.............
.... on a ladder in the garage  What on earth is he up to now?
Hmmmm.  He's got  a face mask on...........
........... and he's doing something up at the ceiling..........
.......... his ladder is standing in a large puddle of cellulose fibre insulation............
....... and there is a huge pile of fiberglass insulation in the garage as well.  With the possibility of us being in Canada for a large portion of the winter this year, Poppa has decided that the ceiling in the garage - which is the floor of his bedroom - needs to be more efficiently insulated.  Believe it or not, he took all this insulation out of the ceiling.  Unfortunately, it had not been installed correctly and needed to be re-done properly  It is going to be a huge job for him........
.... he has taken his golf clubs out of the Escape so he can use it as a mini-truck to bring home supplies from Home Depot.  I'll keep you up to date as it progresses.  While he's been doing that............
....... Taffy and I finished another Twiddle Muff.  When we were done, I gave her permission............
........ to relax and chat with her friends on the phone for a while.

Okay - what is he doing now???

I can't tell from this photo.  Can you?  Let me see....
His shelves all look tidy, so he can't be cleaning them.  What else?
There is a lawn mower in the garage - could that be a clue?  What else?
Hmmm... there is the lawn tractor he uses to cut Kevin's lot during the summer months.....
...Oh!  That's what he's doing!  He is sharpening the blades for the mower or the tractor - not sure which.

Plants on June 6th

I can't believe it is already the 1st of September and a whole month has gone by since I last posted..........so here I am again trying to catch up........I'm going to do it a batch at a time, so...........
........ what is Poppa doing now???
He seems to be digging a little trench all the way around the front flower bed - why???
I don't know!  His grass looks healthy and the tree is giving him some shade while he works.........
.......I still can't tell what he is doing........I'll have to get another picture!
