Besides watching TV, we have done a bit of shopping. Of course, we've been to Wal-Mart - where Taffy spent some of her allowance money for a couple of new outfits - here is one of them....
Doesn't she look pretty? She also got some new ear ribbons to match the new outfits, and to replace a couple of old ones that have gotten worn out. Squeegie, however, is holding out to spend his money at Chick Fil-A, so he is still sporting his Canadian outfit.
Like last year, Poppa's cousin and his wife were also in Florida - along with a friend of theirs. One evening we all got together at their place and had dinner. Good time and good food, we laughed and chatted until about 10:30 and then Poppa and I headed home. A couple of days later, they called to say they were on their way back to Canada soon, and would like to drop off their left-over food, rather than discard it. While they were here, I took the opportunity to snap a picture, and then their friend took one of the four of us for me.
Since that was the one milder day that we have had since we got here, and since it was their last day in Florida, we decided that we would all head over to the Gulf coast and stroll along the water. We visited Siesta Key Beach this time - it was lovely, but the water was still cold! The boys were standing in a little group watching something....
...so I looked around until I discovered it was this ......
There were two people wind sailing - being towed by the boat that you see in front of them. We all agreed that it looked to scare-ey and was too cold for any of us to even consider it, but it was fun to watch! After our stroll on the beach, we all went out for dinner - another fun day.
The following day, we loaded everyone in the car..
..and headed for one of our favourite shopping sites - the one that Gramps showed us years ago...do you recognize it Granny?
And three hours later we arrived back at the villa with our small cache of purchases.
Last night before we went to bed, they were talking on the TV about the temperature going below freezing during the night (for the second night in a row, and about the third night since we had been here) - and warning all of the orange/citrus/strawberry farmers to try to keep their crops wet to avoid damage. This morning after we had gone for breakfast, we drove up the highway for a while and stopped to get this picture.....
....so everyone in Canada can see that we are not kidding when we say it is cold. All that white stuff is ice - frozen during the efforts to keep the orange trees wet. An orange grower from this area was on the TV tonight saying he had lost about 50% of his crop. They were picking as many oranges as they could while they were still frozen, so they could send them to the juicers and get a portion of their income.
On the way home, we stopped at the Jo-Ann store - and you'll never guess what I did there! I bought enough yarn for two more pairs of socks! What? It was on sale at a really reasonable price...I couldn't just leave it there! Right???? YARN ALERT! Pictures of yarn tomorrow.
Weeeeeeeeeeee! Socks!
ReplyDeleteTaffy's outfit does indeed look lovely.
